AI functionality on Academic.page is designed to make it easier to get work you've already done onto the web. We use AI primarily to extract, structure, organize, and distill information you provide, not to create new work on your behalf.
For example, Academic.page can use AI to:
- Extract publications and conference talks from your CV and convert them into structured data for you to review and approve.
- Create a preliminary list of projects from your CV, with brief descriptions that you can edit and approve.
- Build a navigation menu based on content you've already added to your site.
- Distill a blog post you've written into a short excerpt for an index page or search engine.
We deliberately do not provide AI tools for generating substantive writing on your behalf. Academic.page won't ask an LLM to write your personal biography from a prompt or turn an idea into a blog post.
The distinction is intentional. We are comfortable using AI to turn the publications listed on your CV into structured publication records, or to distill a blog post you wrote into a one-sentence excerpt for a search engine or page index. We don't want your site to be AI slop.
Whether AI produces structured data or a short distillation of your existing writing, we never publish AI-generated or AI-processed content without your explicit approval. We encourage you to review every suggestion carefully to make sure it is accurate.
We also recognize that some people would prefer not to use these technologies at all. You can fully opt out of AI features in your settings. If you opt out, we won't present you with AI features or send your information to an LLM provider.
